Bouldering Masterclass

Hey ho! I'm back as (un-) fit and as (laughably not-) strong as ever. A week of not climbing in england on the most disasterous college trip known to man did wonders for recouperating my battered and broken body. It also gave me much time to mull over what I'd learnt, as yours truly was one of the lucky participants in Nigel Callender and Neal McQuaid's (irish climing coaching) bouldering masterclass in DCU! Going on that workshop was probably the best thing I could have done to improve my climbing right now. The lads really know their stuff (as shown by their very impressive tick lists/resumes!). Within I'd say about half an hour they had pinned down the main problems affecting the climbing of the class participents. Its so much easier for an objective observer to spot these things! In my case its a matter of strength outstripping technique, not having the most precise footwork in the world, not thinking ahead enough and a certain hesitancey on slabs. It'd be very easy to blame everything on the UCD wall, but........... Oh sod it, it IS all because of the wall!(stupid steepness, ruining my technique!) :-D Ah no, not really! The main thing is these problems have been identified and the lads have given good, clear, concise advice on how to fix them. Hopefully with my newfound knowledge and diligent application, improvements will be seen! (roll on the 8a's! :P) All that remains to be said is that if anyone wants to improve their climbing then check these guys out! Thanks Neal and Nigel!
